Hypnotherapy, NLP & Coaching
Some of our students achievements and testimonials since graduation :-
Since her training with us two years ago, Karen Darke has developed the skills and the confidence to work for herself as a motivational speaker, hypnotherapist and coach.
She says "The training offered a solid base of practical and theoretical learning, alongside the coaching and support that are cornerstone to Matthew's style of teaching.
Prior to doing the Motivation Partnership course, I worked in learning and development as part of the HR team for a large multinational. Although I enjoyed this, I wanted more "hands-on" experience of working with people and supporting them in their development. The combination of hypnotherapy, NLP and coaching have given me the skills to do that.
Matthew's coaching also helped me get pen to paper and write my first book, "If You Fall."!

Anna Pollock has been working as a Management Consultant for 8 years focusing on personal effectiveness, team working and one to one coaching. She is also a part time lecturer in Organisational Behaviour/ Business Communications and delivers conference workshops in her subjects for clients such as Oxford University and Sothebys Institute of Art. She says " my work is very wide ranging but my overriding aim in everything I do is to help clients realize their full potential. I already had a solid training in coaching methods when I discovered Motivation Training, but what I was looking for was new ideas for helping the specific clients I have who feel 'blocked' or 'stuck'. The training I received with Motivation Training went well beyond my expectations. Not only did I discover a whole new level of coaching to offer my clients, but the impact on my own personal effectiveness was profound. I realized that I was probably operating well within my comfort zone and certain deep seated fears were preventing me from moving to the next level in my work. A couple of years ago I would have got terribly nervous about running a course, would have avoided scary senior execs and certainly would not have put myself in front of a large or hostile audience - here I am now, as cool as a cucumber, regularly standing in front of an auditorium of 100 students, chairing senior management conferences and actively seeking out hostile audiences for the thrill of the debate!'
'Another surprise of the training I received was a new area of work I found myself drawn to - coaching sportsmen and women' For example, a semi professional cyclist had left his job in order to concentrate on his cycling. He knew he had the fitness and technique but felt his mental state was the thing that was holding him back. In our first sessions we worked on visualisations of staying cool, moving smoothly 'in the zone' and using his opponents cycles as 'magnets' to pull him along with minimal effort. Later we worked on the limitations he was placing on his speed around corners and up hills. He came to me already defeated if the race had a hill in it, and left actively seeking out hill races because that's where his new mental approach gave him the edge over others and moved him smoothly up the rankings. He was last heard of doing the Tour De France in 2005!'
'I also coached an archer who was experiencing 'gold shyness' or an inability to lock onto the target. The issues here not only concerned the physical act of archery but also around more general ones of fear of success and the pressures of winning. A few sessions working on these combined with learning some new muscle memories were very effective and the archer is once again enjoying their hobby to the max.'
'I love my work and the very wide range of clients I am able to help using the techniques I learned on the Motivation Training course. With respect to my own development, I find myself with a new 'no limits' approach to all I do and am constantly amazed by the new challenges I accept without hesitation! I am now working on a book to help others who face blocks and 'stuckness' Anna Pollock

Dianne McDowall says "I'm fascinated with, and passionate about, the power of the mind and the incredible difference self-belief and a positive attitude to life can make, so I decided to develop my skills even further with the Motivation Partnership to allow me to incorporate hypnotherapy and NLP into my coaching business. It's made an incredible difference in the level of support I can now offer my clients."
Here is a story about Dianne's talks 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway' :
"When the flyer advertising my talk appeared in my inbox 2 weeks before the event, I knew it had been sent to over 520 women. At first I thought "Oh my God - no going back now!", but it took me less than 5 minutes to turn my fear and nerves into excitement and anticipation. Prior to the talk I stayed calm with the use of self-hypnosis and visualisation. I filled my subconscious mind with positive "can do" statements and kept re-affirming to myself that not only could I do it, but that I could excel at it. On the day itself my nerves were still in check but I began to wonder when my nerves were going to appear. I said to myself "Great, my nerves are going to appear in full force the moment I stand up to speak!". When I was introduced I received a round of applause and just went into full flow. My subconscious not only remembered everything, but my talk went even better than I had visualised - in fact it was like a dream come true. I forgot nothing, my body language and pitch were perfect, I never became tongue tied, I had the timing absolutely spot on to the minute and kept full control of the group of just over 40 women at all times - it all just flowed like magic! I had them laughing, interacting, nodding their heads at everything I said and wanting to share their experiences. Towards the end of the session, I even donned my very best hypnotherapy voice, asked them to close their eyes and relax and I did a 4 minute Guided Visualisation with them which left them all in a wonderfully relaxed state - it was fantastic!! After my 1.5 hour talk, at least 30 people signed up for my groups and evening classes (which are now booked out completely!) and to thank me personally. Afterwards when I sat in my car I said to myself "Did I really just do that?"", and at that point I actually started shaking! Yes - I had most definitely done it!! The self-hypnosis had kept me completely in control of my thoughts and actions throughout the entire experience, and more importantly, I enjoyed every single moment of it. Absolutely tremendous, and I'm now looking forward to speaking for them all over the Highlands .

After completing our training Martin Murphy set up 'The Equestrian Therapy Team'. Here is a story about him.
Freya became extremely nervous about riding following a bad fall from her pony two years ago. Since then, she has had considerable success in the show ring winning at 'The Horse of the Year Show' on the leading rein, but has never really had the confidence to ride on her own. My long term mentor and Freya's first teacher, Nicky Ellis, suggested that a session with Martin might be beneficial.
Nicky and Martin came to our yard and the results were amazing. Martin very quietly took Freya aside and asked her about her fears. She explained to him that she had a picture in her mind about her pony bolting. Martin was able to work with Freya at re-creating a positive mental image. This took only a few moments.
Freya then got on her pony and had the most amazing lesson with Nicky, and even confessed her ambition to do pony club mounted games! This from a child who was afraid even to canter.
Freya says Nicky and Martin have helped her to get her confidence back. She has been on her pony today, cantering around the arena, looking forward to her next lesson, when she plans to start practising for the Prince Philip Cup!

After completing his training with us, Rupert Raikes went on to run a very successful private practice helping individuals and groups using Hypnotherapy, NLP and Coaching. He now runs a unique therapy centre in Goa, India using all his skills and has introduced a new one - hypnotic dance Before he left for India he had a breakthrough in his own personal development. Here is a piece by Bournemouth Echo in March 2006 - 'Rupert Raikes earned himself a place in the record books. At Meyrick Park Golf Club he fired a remarkable level par round of 68 to win the club medal - off his handicap of 24. He was a staggering 24 shots under par to post a net score of just 44 - certainly the lowest ever at Meyrick Park and possibly much further afield. Rupert only started playing golf in June the year before and adopted some of the techniques he learnt in his training in hypnosis. "It's all about visualization and programming the mind. Using it in sport can produce some amazing results" Rupert told the reporter. Stuart MacDougall of the R&A, golf's world rules and development body, believes the score could be a world record'.
Well done Rupert.

the best course I have ever done and wish I had done it sooner”. Pamela

Reviews:
Maria McErlane: Sunday Times " I was met at
the airport by Matthew Ferguson a former City boy who gave
up the rate race 15 years ago, trained as a hypnotherapist
and how now runs Motivation Retreats and Training from
his and his partner Jan's home in the Highlands of Scotland.
I liked him immediately and as we talked about my life,
hopes and dreams I was already feeling much lighter of
spirit. The next morning I had my first hypnotherapy session
this was easy to get into and left me with a burst of energy
and ready for a bike ride together in the nearby forest.
Sunday was a glorious day and I confessed that I did not
want to go back to London and that I had fallen in love
with them both.
Simone Hayes: Natural Health "Matthew describes
the therapy on offer in terms of advances, rather than retreats.
A stay with Matthew and Jan can be more or less anything
you want it to be. In my case, this included a comfortable
en-suite room and fantastic food, but whatever you are looking
for-be it solitude, inspiration, guidance or relaxation-you've
an excellent chance of finding it at Avingormack on a Motivation
Programme. Everything is done in such a relaxed and unobtrusive
manner that within a day you really feel as if you have made
two new friends. The great thing about Motivation Retreats
is there's no pressure to do anything-and for those of us
with stressful lifestyles, there's plenty of appeal in that.
Retreats - Client feedback and testimonials:
"The work we have done together and the work I plan to continue has given
me back to myself. I've thanked the old Ann I've thanked the new Ann and
now I would like to thank you! You and Jan have made me feel very welcome and
relaxed in your lovely home. When I reflect on my journey here I really do feel
transformed. I feel the work we have done together has given me the strength,
insight and wisdom among a multitude of other thoughts and feelings to now go
forward in a way I never thought possible! Ann (London)
"I found your course inspiring and informative. Your enthusiasm and patience
assisted me to absorb information. I particularly enjoyed the personal therapy,
which clarified situations in my life I've hung onto and crucified myself
about over the decades. Overall a truly inspiring and uplifting week in a lovely
environment, which adds to the ambiance of this course. (Alison) Aberdeen
"I think it's been wonderful. The mix between private sessions and personal
time was just right. Jan's food is delicious and her contribution in other ways
is very caring. The whole place is a great inspiration. The way Matthew does
hypnotic sessions and tapes is great". Brenda (France)
"Being in beautiful surroundings and a relaxed atmosphere made the sessions
so much easier. I personally found the whole thing very helpful and go away feeling
I've accomplished my aim, which was to be focused and clear minded and relaxed". (Tim)
