Hypnosis,
NLP and Happiness
by
Matthew Ferguson
There
is a lot of talk of happiness these days. The UK government
is starting to recognise there is more to citizen’s
wellbeing than GDP. The general levels of happiness
are becoming an issue and they may even be starting
to measure it, which all sounds far too Orwellian for
my libertarian tastes. Although I wish Lord Layard well
in his admirable efforts to raise society’s awareness
and importance of positive psychology and happiness,
it is more an area of personal choice than government
initiative to my way of thinking.
One
of the main pillars of happiness is a sense of self
direction and fulfilment. One of the pillars of self
direction and fulfilment is the ability to meet our
challenges and make positive changes at the personal
and as a consequence social levels. Hypnosis
and NLP
processes help us reframe experience and tap
into deeper levels of mental processing that we can
organise in such a way as to rise above our self imposed
limitations and engage with our challenges with positive
belief and enthusiasm.
Becoming
more aware of our conscious and unconscious processes
gives us more power over our attitudes, behaviours and
life direction. Some unconscious processes are beyond
our conscious awareness. Science is showing us, that
what we think of as “free will” is not as much in our
control as we like to imagine. There are unconscious
operations occurring all the time that we are totally
oblivious to. Everyday life would become impossible
if we had to be aware of all the unconscious process
taking place at every moment! Guess what would happen
if you had to be aware of breathing and you forgot!
Dr.
Martin Seligman a world class psychologist and founding
father of Positive Psychology has identified, through
good research, the key elements of happiness and flourishing.
Those key elements are:
- Resilience
- Gratitude
- Personal strengths
- Meaning
- Flow
- Positive relationships
- Positive emotions
- Well being
- Engagement
- Accomplishment
The
creative use of Hypnosis, NLP techniques and positive
tasks as simple as looking forward to three things in
your day and being grateful for three things before
sleep can help you access the above and radically change
your attitude for the better. Combined with simple meditation
together with good nutrition and exercise you can ensure
you will become happier and more resilient to the vagaries
of life.
Hypnosis
and NLP when creatively used goes a long way beyond
getting past unwanted habits. It will help you access
positive, proactive states of mind that will help you
relax, achieve and flourish.
